SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Hamline University defeated visiting Aurora University, 9-2, in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Tournament championship game Saturday evening at Klas Field.

The Pipers (18-1) third-straight MWLC Tournament title comes with the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.

HU's Kalley Elwell had the only goal in the first 11 minutes of play, while Alycia Monserrate Novotny and Radian Lenz tallied scores to make it 3-0. The Spartans (13-6) got on the board with 9:38 left in the half on a goal by Claire Carlson, but Hamline made 5-1 before the end of the half

The teams traded goals in the first 4:13 of the second session and the Pipers then stifled the Spartan offense the rest of the way, adding a goal by Ashley Hessler and two by Novotny for the final margin.

Novotny led Hamline with three goals and two assists, while Molly Dionne had nine saves.

Carlson had both AU goals, while Reilly Armstrong had 11 saves.

Hamline will find out its opponent for the NCAA Tournament Sunday at 8:30 p.m. via ncaa.com.
