Beehler, Smith Earn MWLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Cornell College's Emily Beehler and the University of Northwestern's Cara Smith have been named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive and defensive players of the week respectively, for events April 5-11 as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Beehler (Nokomis, Fla.) tied the program's single-match record in goals with seven for the second time this season, in the 15-12 loss to Wartburg on Saturday, April 10. She added eight ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and won eight draw controls in the game. In conference play only, Beehler is tied for seventh in goals (7), tied for 10th in draw controls (8) and 11th in points (7). This is her second MWLC Player of the Week award this season.

Smith (Watertown, Wis.) had 12 ground balls, three caused turnovers, and won seven draw controls in the 11-5 victory over Monmouth on Saturday, April 10. She added a goal and an assist on the day. In conference play only, Smith is third in ground balls (20),  tied for fifth in caused turnovers (6), and tied for eighth in draw controls (9).

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis, Minn.), Beloit (Beloit, Wis.), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (Saint Paul, Minn.), Loras (Dubuque, Iowa), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa)
