Doctor, Solheim, Smith Earn MWLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Lake Forest College's Jenna Doctor and Wartburg College's Britta Solheim both earned Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive player of the week recognition, while the University of Northwestern's Cara Smith received league defensive player of the week, for events April 11-17 as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Doctor (Grand Island, NY) scored twice in the first quarter alone and three times in the second in Lake Forest's 14-7 victory on the road at Cornell Saturday. Her first two tallies tied the score at 1-1 and 2-2 and the other three came during a five-goal run by the Foresters to take the 11-5 lead at halftime. She added three ground balls and a caused turnover on the day.

Solheim (Blaine, Minn.) scored five goals and added an assist for six points in the 21-7 win over Augsburg Wednesday. This marked the first win over the Auggies in program history. She had six ground balls and one caused turnover in the game.

Smith (Watertown, Wis.) had a team-best four caused turnovers and six ground balls without committing a turnover in the 12-9 loss against UW-Eau Claire Wednesday. She added two draw controls and two goals in the contest.

This is the fourth MWLC weekly honor for Smith this season. This marks the first career honor for Doctor and Solheim.

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
