Box Score The Aurora University men's lacrosse team recorded their first victory of the season against Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) foe Elmhurst University BlueJays, winning 16-4.
A cold, windy day at Elmhurst College managed to slow down the Spartans offense for the first quarter, but the Spartans proved too much for the Blue Jays as they scored nine goals in the second quarter to blow the game wide open.
After AU scored three goals in the first (
Max Obriecht,
Justin Bose and
Zachary Olsen tallied the goals with
Nolan Miller picking up two assists), Senior
Pat Diorka started the scoring stretch in the second quarter and was assisted by senior
Jack Barry. Junior
Jordan Williams scored three of his game-high four goals in the second, extending the Spartans lead to 12-0 by halftime. Other Spartan goal scorers in the second were
Bailey Smith, Barry, Miller and
Jason Koziol with two. Assisting on goals were Obriecht (three),
Max Matthai and
Dustin Rhodes.
Senior goalkeeper
Adam Holka played the first half to earn the win with three saves and no goals allowed. Freshman
Cameron Brooks played the second half and had six saves.
Junior
Danny Loyall scored the lone goal in the third quarter with the assist coming from Miller, his fourth point of the game. Elmhurst broke the shut-out in the third, scoring two goals, one of which came on a man-up opportunity for the Blue Jays.
Aurora soon found their scoring way again in the fourth, with goals from Junior
Ryan Stow, Williams, and Obriecht.
On the day, AU out shot Elmhurst 42-22, had a 36-26 advantage in ground balls and won the face-off battle 16-6.
Aurora is now 1-3 on the year and 1-0 in the MLC. Next action for the Spartan men's lacrosse team comes on Saturday,
March 22 when they host Fontbonne University. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Vago Field
