WAUKESHA, WI - Concordia University (Wis.) claimed a pair of wins last week to remain in a first place tie in the league standings. The Falcons (9-3, 3-0 MLC) beat Carthage in overtime 7-6 and won at home over Cornell College 12-5 in MLC play.
Freshman goalie Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn./Century) anchored the Falcons' defensive effort in both wins. The freshman had 15 saves, one ground ball and a 71% save percentage against Carthage and six saves, one ground ball and a 75% save percentage in the win over Cornell College.
For the week, Wohlford totaled 21 saves, two ground balls and a 73% save percentage, allowing only 11 goals during the two wins.
Concordia (Wis.) will host Concordia Chicago and MSOE in conference matches this week.
In other action...
Aurora University (10-2, 3-0 MLC) remained unbeaten in conference play, beating Beloit 22-8 on Saturday. Sophomore attack Trevor McNamara (Holland, Mich./Grand Haven) scored seven goals with six ground balls and two caused turnovers in the MLC win over the Bucs.
Benedictine University (9-3, 2-1 MLC) beat Concordia Chicago 18-5 in its only action last week. Junior Jimmy Lopez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) scored a goal and added seven assists in the win for the Eagles.
MSOE (5-5, 1-2 MLC) won a pair of contests last week, beating Dubuque 13-5 and Concordia Chicago 12-3. Sophomore Clay Gustafson (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) scored three goals and added two assists in each win for the Raiders.
