Lake Forest sweeps MLC weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Lake Forest College's John Casey and Andrew Widlar were named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for events February 27-March 6, as selected by the league's head coaches. 

Casey (Glenview, Ill.) scored nine goals and added one assist over two games last week for the Foresters. The junior attacker added one caused turnover and seven ground balls. "John was a huge part of our two wins last week both finishing off ball and initiating for himself," said head coach Phil Dodson. 

Widlar (Middlebury, Conn.) played over 94 minutes in goal, made 16 saves and earned two wins over the two games last week. "Andrew stepped up huge this week in goal allowing seven goals and a nearly 70% save percentage in two games," noted Dodson. 

This is Casey's second career MLC weekly honor and first for Widlar.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Dubuque (Dubuque, Iowa), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northland (Ashland, Wis.), and Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.).
