MWLC Report (Week 5) - Vikings Move to 7-0 Following Pair of MWLC Wins

WAUKESHA, WI - Augustana College remained perfect on the season following two conference wins last week.  The Vikings (7-0, 2-0 MWLC) opened the league schedule with wins over Concordia (Wis.) and Dubuque.

In Saturday's 17-6 win over the Falcons (5-2, 2-1 MWLC), junior Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) led the way with five goals, two assists, and two ground balls.

The Vikings were dominant Tuesday evening, shutting out Dubuque (0-6, 0-3 MWLC) 22-0 at Thorson-Lucken Field.  Sophomore attacker Rebecca Pollard (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) scored four goals with four assists, while junior attacker Hilary Kargl (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) added four goals with two assists in the win. 

The Augustana defense limited the visiting Spartans to only three shots in the contest.

Augustana is scheduled to face Denison, Loras, and Benedictine this week.

In other MWLC action...

Carthage (5-3, 3-0 MWLC) remained unblemished in conference action with a 25-7 win over Loras (3-6, 2-3 MWLC) Tuesday.  The Lady Reds received five goals, four assists, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers from senior Sydney Whitaker (Bainbridge, Wash./H.S.) in the win.

North Central (3-3, 2-0 MWLC) stayed perfect in league play with a 17-10 win over Aurora (1-6, 0-2 MWLC) Tuesday.  The Cardinals split a pair of non-league contests, beating Linfield 15-5 and falling to Pomona-Pitzer 13-8.  Four different players scored three or more goals in the win over Aurora.

Beloit College (5-4, 3-1 MWLC) notched two league wins, beating Loras and Fontbonne (0-6, 0-4 MWLC).  Sophomore midfielder Libby Storrick (Coon Rapids, Minn./H.S.) led the Buccaneers during the two conference wins. The sophomore tallied four caused turnovers, six draw controls, and seven ground balls in a 14-8 win at Loras Wednesday and added four caused turnovers, three ground balls, and one draw control in BC's 17-6 home win over Fontbonne Sunday. 

Mount St. Joseph (6-4, 4-2 MWLC) claimed two conference wins last week, beating Dubuque and Loras.  Senior midfielder Samantha Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) scored seven goals with four ground balls, 12 draw controls, and five caused turnovers in a 19-7 win over Dubuque and added five goals with one assist, four ground balls, seven draw controls, and one caused turnover in an 18-3 win over Loras. 

Loras College also earned a MWLC win, beating Fontbonne 14-4 Saturday afternoon.  Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Kutsch (Dubuque, Iowa/Wahlert Catholic) netted nine goals with six draw controls in the win over the Griffins.
