MWLC Report (Week 6) - Cardinals Beat Carthage to Move to 4-0 in MWLC

WAUKESHA, WI - North Central College improved to 4-0 in league play to keep pace with Augustana in the race for a league title. The Cardinals (5-3, 4-0 MWLC) earned wins over Fontbonne and Carthage during the week of play.

In Saturday's 21-2 win over Fontbonne (1-8, 0-6 MWLC), sophomore attacker Gina Fisher (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) led the way with five goals, six assists, eight ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

The Cardinals ended the week with an exciting 17-16 win at home over Carthage Tuesday evening.   Senior midfielder Rachael Houp (Inverness, Ill./Palatine) scored four goals with one assist, two ground balls, and four draw controls in the win.  Freshman Kassie Whaling (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) scored the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining in the contest. 

North Central returns to action on Tuesday, April 15 at home against Concordia (Wis.).

In other MWLC action...

Augustana (10-0, 4-0 MWLC) remained perfect on the season, going 3-0 last week.  Junior Hilary Kargl (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) led the Vikings to wins over Denison, Loras (3-8, 2-4 MWLC), and Benedictine (1-8, 0-3 MWLC) during the week. Kargl broke the Augustana assist record with six assists against Denison and then broke the school record again the next day with seven assists against Loras.  In a 15-14 win over regional power Denison, Kargl assisted on 75% of AC's total goals and added another goal herself.  The junior scored two goals with seven assists, four ground balls, and one caused turnover in a 21-3 win over Loras.  Twelve different players scored for the Vikings in a 22-0 win over Benedictine Tuesday.

Concordia University (Wis.) (7-3, 4-1 MWLC) finished the week of play 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action. The Falcons beat Mount St. Joseph 14-11 on the road and claimed a 16-3 win at home over Aurora.  Junior Stephanie Barry (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) scored a career-high five goals against the Lions, while Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn./H.S.) netted five goals against the Spartans.

Carthage College (6-4, 4-1 MWLC) earned an 18-4 win at home over Beloit (6-5, 3-2 MWLC) before falling to North Central Tuesday evening.   The Lady Reds received three goals and two assists from Sydney Whitaker (Bainbridge, Wash./H.S.) in the win over the Buccaneers.

Mount St. Joseph (7-5, 5-3 MWLC) bounced back from the Concordia (Wis.) loss to beat Fontbonne 19-2 Sunday.  Senior midfielder Samantha Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) led the Lions with four goals, two assists, three ground balls, 11 draw controls, and two caused turnovers in the win over the Griffins.

Aurora University (2-7, 1-3 MWLC) earned its first conference win of the season, beating Dubuque (0-7, 0-4 MWLC) 12-6 Saturday.  The Spartans received four goals each from Danielle Morgan (Mutkilteo, Wash./Kamiak) and Lexie Wright (Woodstock, Ga./Etowah) in the league win.
