MWLC Report (Week 8) - Falcons Clinch Share of MWLC Championship

WAUKESHA, WI - Concordia University clinched at least a share of the school's first ever MWLC title, improving to 6-0 in league play.  The Falcons (8-5, 6-0 MWLC) beat Cornell College and Wartburg to lock up the top seed in the upcoming MWLC Tournament (May 1-2).

Senior Hannah Redden (Libertyville, Ill./H.S.) scored two goals with four assists in a 20-3 win over Cornell College and added two goals and a program record seven assists in a 19-2 win over Wartburg. 

Freshman midfielder Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill./Nazareth Academy) had five goals, six ground balls, and a program-record-tying five caused turnovers in a 10-9 loss at Carthage.  The freshman scored four goals with one assist, three ground balls, six draw controls, and two caused turnovers against Cornell College and capped the week with one goal, four ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers against Wartburg.  

Concordia is scheduled to face Mount Union and North Central in non-league play this week.

In other action...

Beloit College (6-5, 3-1 MWLC) inched closer to a MWLC tournament bid with a 13-4 win at home over Loras. Junior Libby Storrick (Coon Rapids, Minn./H.S.) led the Bucs with three goals, two assists, four ground balls, and six draw controls in the win.  Beloit will close out the conference schedule against Aurora, Wartburg, and Cornell this week. 

Aurora University (6-6, 3-1 MWLC) finished the week 2-1 overall and won its only MWLC contest.   The Spartans beat Cornell College 11-5, Mount St. Joseph 13-12, and fell at Dubuque 13-12.  In the conference win over Cornell, junior Danielle Morgan (Mukiteo, Wash./Kamiak) and freshman Taylor Arcivar (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North) each scored three goals to lead the Spartans.

Wartburg College (3-9, 2-2 MWLC) posted an 11-5 win over Carroll in non-conference action.  The Knights received three goals and two assists from Niki Harrison (Rochester, Minn./Century) in the win.

Illinois Tech (3-8, 1-2 MWLC) won its first conference contest of the season, beating Loras 9-8 Sunday. Freshman Cassandra Reineke (Waukegan, Ill./Carmel) led the Scarlett Hawks with four goals, five ground balls, and one draw control in the win.

Cornell College (1-12, 0-5 MWLC) earned the program's first ever win on Sunday, beating Carroll 13-12. Freshman Sydney Cooper (Morton, Ill./H.S.) led the Rams with six goals, including the game-winner, three ground balls, and one draw control.
