Sherry, Arns Earn MWLC Weekly Awards

MINNEAPOLIS— The University of Northwestern's Talia Sherry and Augsburg University's Annabelle Arns have been named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive and defensive players of the week respectively, for events April 19-25 as selected by the league's sports information directors.

Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn.) led her team with 14 goals and four assists for 18 points in three games on the week. She also won 14 draw controls, picked up 10 ground balls, and had three caused turnovers. Sherry leads all MWLC competitors in goals (28) and points (38). This is her second-straight MWLC weekly award. Northwestern will be the No. 3 seed in the MWLC playoffs which begins Wednesday.

Arns (Monticello, Minn.) won 16 draw controls over a pair of Augsburg victories this week, which secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MWLC playoffs. In the 15-14 win over Northwestern on Wednesday, April 21, Arns had eight draw controls, one ground ball, and one caused turnover. She also scored the game-winning goal with 32 seconds left in regulation. On Saturday, April 24, she had eight draw controls with a ground ball and a caused turnover in the 14-6 win over Cornell.  Among all MWLC competitors Arns is third in draw controls (34) and is tied for ninth in caused turnovers (9).

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis, Minn.), Beloit (Beloit, Wis.), Cornell (Mount Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Loras (Dubuque, Iowa), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
