Doctor, Smith earn MWLC weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Lake Forest College's Jenna Doctor and the University of Northwestern's Cara Smith were named the  Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for events March 21-26, as selected by the league's head coaches.

Doctor (Sophomore; Grand Island, N.Y.) had seven goals on nine shots on goal in Saturday's 16-5 win over Concordia Chicago. She added three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Doctor is tied for third among all MWLC players in goals (15), and seventh in points (17).

Smith (Junior, Watertown, Wis.) had 18 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, three draw controls, scored three goals and added three assists in two games last week for the Eagles. She is second among all MWLC players in ground balls (32), and third in caused turnovers (15).

This is the second career MWLC honor for Doctor, and sixth career MWLC honor for Smith. This is the first honor for the duo this season.

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), Saint Benedict (St. Joseph, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
