Wiebold, Smith earn MWLC weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— The University of Northwestern's Samantha Wiebold and Cornell College's India Smith were named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for events April 3-9, as selected by the league's head coaches.

Wiebold (Fifth year; Farmington, Minn.) scored six goals in Wednesday's 18-6 win over Hamline. She added five draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers on the day. Among all conference players in league games, Wiebold is tied for second in goals (11) and points (13), and tied for sixth in draw controls (10).

Smith (Junior; Treasure Island, Fla.) had eight ground balls, five caused turnovers and added two goals in Friday's 15-9 win over Augsburg. Among all MWLC players in conference games, she is third in caused turnovers (8) and ground balls (12). 

This is the fourth career MWLC honor for Wiebold and second this season. This is the first career honor for Smith.

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), Saint Benedict (St. Joseph, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
