Hackley, Reu earn MWLC weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— The College of Saint Benedict's Sami Hackley and the University of Northwestern's Maren Reu were named the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference (MWLC) offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for events April 17-23, as selected by the league's head coaches.

Hackley (Freshman; Plymouth, Minn.) scored six goals and added two assists in the two league wins last week for the Bennies. She added 11 draw controls, 10 ground balls, and eight caused turnovers. Among all conference players, Hackley is first in draw controls (33), second in points (25), tied for third in caused turnovers (13), fourth in assists (8), and fifth in goals (17).

Reu (Junior; Sioux Falls, S.D.) forced seven caused turnovers, and picked up seven ground balls in the two MWLC games last week for the Eagles. She was part of the defense that allowed 10 goals on the week while the offense scored 19. Against all conference players, Reu is tied for 13th in caused turnovers (8), and tied for 22nd in ground balls (11).

This is the first career MWLC honor for the duo, and first weekly award in Saint Benedict's history as 2023 is the program's inaugural season.

The MWLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Monmouth (Monmouth, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), Saint Benedict (St. Joseph, Minn.), and Wartburg (Waverly, Iowa).
