Cornell sweeps MLC women’s weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Cornell College's Cece Zanoni and India Smith have been named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) women's offensive and defensive players of the week respectively, for events February 19-25 as selected by the league's head coaches.

Zanoni (Mundelein, Ill)  scored five goals and added three assists in Saturday's 21-5 season opener win against Augustana (Ill.). She added one draw control and three caused turnovers, and was 1-2 in free position attempts. 

Smith (Treasure Island, Fla.) had seven ground balls, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls in Saturday's victory. As a defender, she scored six goals and added one assist.

This is the second career MLC honor for the duo.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Saint Benedict (St. Joseph, Minn.).
