Cornell sweeps MLC women’s weekly awards

MINNEAPOLIS— Cornell College's Cece Zanoni and India Smith have been named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) women's offensive and defensive players of the week respectively, for events March 11-17 as selected by the league's head coaches.

Zanoni (Mundelein, Ill.) scored nine goals and added one assist over the two victories on the week for the Rams. She added four ground balls, four caused turnovers and one draw control. Zanoni leads all MLC players in points, ranks second in assists, and is fourth in goals.

Smith (Treasure Island, Fla.) had 13 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, and seven draw controls over the two wins on the week. She added six goals and one assist. Smith leads all MLC players in caused turnovers and ground balls, and is fifth in draw controls. 

This is the third career MLC honor for the duo.

The MLC is comprised of NCAA Division III institutions located throughout the Midwest including Augsburg (Minneapolis), Cornell (Mt. Vernon, Iowa), Hamline (St. Paul, Minn.), Lake Forest (Lake Forest, Ill.), Northwestern (St. Paul, Minn.), and Saint Benedict (St. Joseph, Minn.).
