College of Mount St. Joseph senior midfielder Samantha Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) led the Lions to a 2-0 record last week and has been named the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference Player of the Week on offense.
The senior scored seven goals with four ground balls, 12 draw controls, and five caused turnovers in a 19-7 conference win over Dubuque and added five goals with one assist, four ground balls, seven draw controls, and one caused turnover in an 18-3 win over Loras.
For the week, Hughes scored 12 goals with 1 assist, eight ground balls, six caused turnovers, and 19 draw controls.
Hughes has already broke the Mount’s single season scoring record with 53 points and 45 goals scored this season, ranking first in the MWLC in both categories.
Mount St. Joseph (6-4, 4-2 MWLC) will host Concordia (Wis.) and Fontbonne in league play this weekend.
